A little bit about me

me:
In 1998 I started my studies in Industrial Design at Centro Universitário da Cidade, Rio de Janeiro. There, after 2 years studying design and art history, graphic design and experimenting with different materials and shapes, I realized that product design was really my thing.

Another 2 years learning all I could about the world of product design - from physics to marketing, from production to sustainability - in November 2001 I graduated.

However, I felt like there was still something missing. I wanted to know more about people-product interfaces, the two as interactants in a system. Early 2002, I have started a specialization course on ergonomics and usability at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. In 2003, I was accepted in a research program (MSc) in the same institution.

For 2 years I conducted a research about the usability of products with strong aesthetic appeal, conducting experiments and publishing research findings. On the second year, I was awarded with a grant for academic excellency and started working at the university as a researcher at LEUI (Ergonomics and Usability of Interfaces Lab), carrying out my research, supervising students, and giving lectures.

Although my MSc research focused mostly on usability issues, my interest for emotional design increased. Due to this interest and the apparent lack of communication between emotion and usability, I formulated a PhD research proposal. In august 2005 I received a grant from CNPq (National Council of Research, Brazil) to start a PhD at Technical University of  Delft, in The Netherlands, on the subject of emotions/product experience. On the 1st of October 2005 I was officially a PhD student at TU Delft.

Soon after starting my PhD, after I drowned myself in literature on emotions, I realized that people often express their love for products they own and use, but what is to love a product?
Not much is known about person-product love. Out of that, I have designed a more detailed research plan and swam through the fascinating world of person-product love.

Now, in my 4th year, I still find the subject fascinating. Lately I've been writing papers, conducting and analyzing studies, and will soon start writing my thesis. I'll be around TU Delft until the end of March, when my contract expires.

Apart from my research?? I'm all DIY! I love to build all kinds of stuff, design and sew my own clothes, cook, and explore this little planet we live in.
